Iām an artist who discovered the healing power of drawing during one of the hardest times of my life ā jobless, living with chronic illness, and stuck in a global pandemic. In the middle of it all, my mother handed me a stack of plates and told me to just draw. From that day, drawing became my way back to joy.
āDessineā meansĀ drawĀ in French, and itās been part of me since childhood. My family would call out āJosephine Dessineā ā Josephineās drawing ā and it stuck. My mother, a painter herself, filled our home with her art and passed those creative roots on to me.
